The 1966 Fender Vibrolux Reverb isn’t just an amp—it’s the secret weapon of legends, Born in Fender’s golden “blackface” era (1964-1967), this icon fused studio nuance with stage-ready punch, making it the most versatile amplifier in the vintage Fender lineup.
Built on the revered pre-CBS AA-864 circuit, the Vibrolux combined fixed-bias 6L6 power tubes, a 5AR4 rectifier, and cathode-follower tremolo for harmonic richness and touch-sensitive dynamics. Its lower plate voltage (315V vs. later blackface models) gave overdrive a “chewy,” vocal quality that erupted at stage volumes Original Jensen C10Q or C10N 10″ speakers delivered bell-like highs and focused mids, but many players swapped them for Celestions or Eminence “Fat Jimmys” to thicken the low end—proving this amp’s adaptabilit.
